Global Changes: Infiltration

Contains controls used to identify infiltration data for which to apply global changes. Global changes can be enabled and restricted for certain types of infiltration data. Infiltration is the movement of outside air into a thermal zone through flowpaths such as cracks, joints, electrical outlets, and through the materials in the building constructions.

Note: Default infiltration properties are defined for rooms in the Lighting's Infiltration panel.
Tip: An alternative to using Global Changes is to change the infiltration data for individual rooms by using the controls found in Infiltration Properties.
SettingDescription
Design flow rate calculation method When on, the design flow rate calculation method can be changed globally for the selected rooms. The design flow rate calculation methods can be globally changed to one of the following methods:

Note: Activating and selecting from options on the Design flow rate calculation method New data drop-down automatically enables the applicable infiltration properties (Flow rate per room) making them ready to be globally changed.
  • New data — Used to enter the new Design flow rate calculation method. The design flow rate calculation method selected here is the design flow rate calculation method the selected rooms' design will be globally changed to use when the Apply button is clicked. Design flow rate calculation methods appear on the available drop-down list. The same Design flow rate calculation method drop-down list is enabled when Restrict changes is checked.
  • Restrict changes — When on, the changes can be restricted by selecting a design flow rate calculation method to omit from the global change. The design flow rate calculation method selected here will be checked for in the selected rooms' existing room design data properties. If the data check finds the same design flow rate calculation method, the room is omitted from the global change when the Apply button is clicked.
Flow rate per room When on, the flow rate per room value can be changed globally for the selected rooms. Flow rate per room refers to a method of calculating infiltration flow rates by directly entering the design volume flow rate for the room.

Flow rate per room options are enabled by selecting Flow rate per room from the Design flow rate calculation method options

  • New data — Used to enter the new flow rate per room value. The flow rate per room value entered here is the flow rate per room value the selected rooms' design will be globally changed to when the Apply button is clicked.
  • Restrict changes — When on, the changes can be restricted by entering a flow rate per room value to omit from the global change. The flow rate per room value entered here will be checked for in the selected rooms' existing room design data properties. If the data check finds the same flow rate per room value, the room is omitted from the global change when the Apply button is clicked.
Flow rate per area When on, the flow rate per area value can be changed globally for the selected rooms. Flow rate per area refers to a method of calculating infiltration flow rates by entering a factor per floor area of the zone (room floor area is calculated as a portion of the total zone floor area).

Flow rate per are options are enabled by selecting Flow rate per area from the Design flow rate calculation method options

  • New data — Used to enter the new flow rate per area value. The flow rate per area value entered here is the flow rate per area value the selected rooms' design will be globally changed to when the Apply button is clicked.
  • Restrict changes — When on, the changes can be restricted by entering a flow rate per area value to omit from the global change. The flow rate per area value entered here will be checked for in the selected rooms' existing room design data properties. If the data check finds the same flow rate per area value, the room is omitted from the global change when the Apply button is clicked.
Flow rate per exterior area When on, the flow rate per exterior area value can be changed globally for the selected rooms. Flow rate per exterior area refers to a method of calculating infiltration flow rates by entering a factor per exterior surface area of the zone.

Flow rate per exterior area options are enabled by selecting Flow rate per exterior area from the Design flow rate calculation method options

  • New data — Used to enter the new flow rate per exterior area value. The flow rate per exterior area value entered here is the flow rate per exterior area value the selected rooms' design will be globally changed to when the Apply button is clicked.
  • Restrict changes — When on, the changes can be restricted by entering a flow rate per exterior area value to omit from the global change. The flow rate per exterior area value entered here will be checked for in the selected rooms' existing room design data properties. If the data check finds the same flow rate per exterior area value, the room is omitted from the global change when the Apply button is clicked.
Flow rate per exterior wall area When on, the flow rate per exterior wall area value can be changed globally for the selected rooms. Flow rate per exterior wall area refers to a method of calculating infiltration flow rates by entering a factor per exterior wall surface area of the zone.

Flow rate per exterior wall area options are enabled by selecting Flow rate per exterior wall area from the Design flow rate calculation method options

  • New data — Used to enter the new flow rate per exterior wall area value. The flow rate per exterior wall area value entered here is the flow rate per exterior wall area value the selected rooms' design will be globally changed to when the Apply button is clicked.
  • Restrict changes — When on, the changes can be restricted by entering a flow rate per exterior wall area value to omit from the global change. The flow rate per exterior wall area value entered here will be checked for in the selected rooms' existing room design data properties. If the data check finds the same flow rate per exterior wall area value, the room is omitted from the global change when the Apply button is clicked.
Air changes per hour When on, the air changes per hour value can be changed globally for the selected rooms. The Air changes per hour refers to a method of calculating infiltration flow rates by entering the number of air changes per hour for the infiltration amount.

Air changes per hour options are enabled by selecting Air changes per hour from the Design flow rate calculation method options

  • New data — Used to enter the new air changes per hour value. The air changes per hour value entered here is the air changes per hour value the selected rooms' design will be globally changed to when the Apply button is clicked.
  • Restrict changes — When on, the changes can be restricted by entering an air changes per hour value to omit from the global change. The air changes per hour value entered here will be checked for in the selected rooms' existing room design data properties. If the data check finds the same air changes per hour value, the room is omitted from the global change when the Apply button is clicked.
Schedule When on, the schedule used to calculate infiltration can be changed globally for the selected rooms.
  • New data — Used to select a new schedule used to calculate infiltration for the selected rooms. The schedule selected here is the schedule the selected rooms will be globally changed to use when the Apply button is clicked.
  • Restrict changes — When on, the changes can be restricted by selecting a schedule to omit from the global change. The schedule selected here will be checked for in the selected rooms' existing room design data properties. If the data check finds the same schedule, the room is omitted from the global change when the Apply button is clicked.
Tip: Units Display – Units are displayed using the default system of units that was defined for the project, but can be changed to display using alternative units.
